Update of 26 October: The Cubs played their first ever game of football against the South Auckland Knights, this evening in Mangere. While we lost by 54 to 6, we played with 5 men against the 7 men of the Knights. We were left short when 2 players failed to turn up to the game. Our 5 Cubs excelled themselves and the score was not a true indication of how close the game was.
Update of 25 October: The Jaguars beat the Lightning Flash on Saturday to take out the final of the second round of the Flag Championship. The Jaguars won 13-12 with a TD just before full time. The Under 15 Championhsip kicked off last night at the Stadium with our Bobcats taking on the Raiders. The Raiders were much bigger than our boys but the Bobcats put on an impressive display of tackling, passing and running with the ball. If a comparison needs to be made, the Bobcats are a better team than both of the under 16 teams at the club last year. What we saw from them was enough to impress and look forward to the rest of the season. The Raiders won 32-6.
Update of 13 October: Our flag teams took out 2nd and 3rd places during the first round of the Flag Football Championship today. As usual, we met each other in the semi final with the Roy Chou-Lee led Cougars beating Joe Ashfield's Jaguars by 19 to 14. The Cougars met the Tamaki Lightning Flash side and went down 27-13. They had earlier lost to them by 24 - 15 in the first game of the day. See pictures at the bottom of this page and on the Pride Multimedia page.
Update of 8 October: Coaches Ashfield and Wegge introduced a dynamic passing game to the team at Sunday's practice. A look at the talent on hand convinced them both that the passing game would work well in the league. We expect this exciting brand of football to attract fans to the club, throwing the ball is what people come to see.
Update of 3 October: Joe Ashfield and Matt Wegge arrived this morning from Minneapolis. Both are fit and well and eager to start playing football. They will have their first team practise with the squad this Sunday, 11am, at North Harbour Stadium.
Update of 30 September: Our American imports, Joe Ashfield and Matt Wegge, arrive this Wednesday and will meet the team for the first time next Sunday.
The Vixens had their first run today and they are looking formidable. Joe and Matt will take over the team next week with the aim of turning them into a gridiron championship side.
News on Matthew Hurley, our under 17 player who is currently playing for the Orme School in Arizona: Orme have played 5 games so far with 3 wins and 2 losses. Matt is kicking and playing wide receiver on the team. Plans are for him to return and play for the Pride in January, before returning to Arizona for his senior year.

Auckland representative, James Townsley returns to the Pride after a year off to injury. Townsley played premier soccer during the winter and is injury free for this season.
Update of 18 September: New Zealand Haka representatives Shawn Nance and Chris Taylor have joined us for this season. Nance played College football in his homeland, the USA and comes to us from the Lightning. Taylor comes to us from the Raiders, most recently he has been living in Israel. Nance at receiver and Taylor at running back and defensive back, are good aquisitions for the club. They have vast playing experience and have also coached at representative level. Together with Joe Ashfield and Matt Wegge (our American imports) they will form an impressive coaching lineup at the club.
Update of 17 August: We have signed a second overseas player - Matt Wegge, played receiver at Division 2 Mankato State University and is currently coaching high school football in Minnesota. Both he and Joe Ashfield will arrive at the end of September.
Update of 13 August: 17 year old Matt Hurley left today to play high school football at the Orme School in Tempe, Arizona. The scholarship was organised through the school and Gridiron New Zealand. Matt has played 2 years for the junior teams at the Pride and will return to play for the Pride Under 17 team in January.
The Pride are showing their commitment to excellence by signing new players and coaches from the USA for this coming season.
Joe Ashfield is coming to us from the German Football League where he is playing for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns. He has played Division 2 and 3 college in the USA for Drake and St John's universities. He will both play and coach at the club.
Ian Cooper is an assistant coach with Rocky Mountain College of Montana, USA, a NAIA college. Ian is with us until January when he returns to RMC.
We are also working towards bringing another player from the USA to assist in playing and coaching.
We also welcome Mike Patumaka to our junior coaching ranks. Mike is a veteran of NZ football and last year was the head coach of the successful North West Jets who won the Auckland representative game against South East at under 16 level.
Ben Curran and 2 assistants will also coach juniors at the club. Ben and his team are currently studying sports coaching at Massey University and they will be a valuable addition to the club.
Wayne Wright is expected to continue coaching at junior level and will probably take over the head coaching role with the Pride seniors. With the coaching talent available to him, he will play an 'English soccer manager' type of role with the team.
Chris Ellison is going overseas later in the year and Roy Chou-Lee will continue with the under 19 side.
